Rossi : The 800 quite good |
Whist improving the 2006 M1 was the number one priority for the Camel Yamaha Team at the test, Rossi made his 800cc debut with a brief four lap shakedown on Monday afternoon and had another short run planned for Tuesday - only for rain to force him to stop after just a couple of laps.
"Yesterday I tried the new 800cc bike for just a few laps and my first impression is quite good," said Rossi on Tuesday evening. "I did only four laps yesterday and I hoped to do some more this afternoon, we asked for ten minutes extra track time at the end of the day but unfortunately it started to rain after a few minutes so we had to stop."

Rossi second and closes the gap |
Valentino Rossi picked up 20 vital points in the Czech Republic after taking second place in a race which saw series leader Nicky Hayden stumble to ninth – a result which reduces the gap between the pair to 38 points and 13 points down Dani Pedrosa - with five rounds remaining.
Rossi had to fend off a valiant challenge from rookie Dani Pedrosa four laps from the end before comfortably sealing the runner-up spot.
Valentino Rossi: “It was a good race today and I am very happy with the weekend. Obviously starting from pole position you hope that you can win but today Loris had a completely different pace to the rest of us and I couldn’t believe the gap he made!
We weren’t perfect today and we still had a few problems, but anyway I was able to do a good race and fight hard to the end. I had a great battle with Pedrosa with many good overtakes, which was great fun, especially since I finally managed to finish in front of him! Even though I didn’t win today this is a very important result for the championship; we are now third and we’ve gained on Pedrosa and Hayden.

Rossi on pole near-impossible |
Valentino Rossi rescued a near-impossible situation with the fastest ever bike lap of the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic to take pole position for Sunday's Gauloises Grand Prix.
The Doctor already clocked the best practice time 1'57"871 on his unpredictable Yamaha on Friday to show that he has no intention of surrendering his title without a fight.
Rossi's fast lap came after time had expired and on a lap that didn't begin well. The world champion was behind the fast time of Loris Capirossi at the first two intervals. But in the second half of the lap Rossi stormed ahead, ending with a new record lap of 1:56.191.
"I think this practice is a great emotion for everybody, especially for us," Rossi said. "I'm happy because we work very well on the bike. Also with the qualification tires that we suffer too much during this year. And we did a great job together with my team and together with Michelin."
"When I see the lap of Loris (Capirossi) I say, is very fast; I don't know if I'm able. But I try, I try very strong with the three qualification tires. And at the end it was a very good lap, very fast; 56.1 is unbelievable."
Rossi knocked Capirossi from the top spot, but he held on to second. "I'm really happy in that moment because when we got back and we think about Friday morning my bike is terrible," he said. "We try to do everyhting and we try to have really good setting. setting. Now I have good confidence with tires and bike and my rhythm with race tires is really good. now I hope to go back, go back with the front guy."

The reigning world champion expects to spend most of the day riding the M1 but is looking forward to putting in a few laps on the new machine to feel what it is like.
